I hear this question, or some form of it, from clients from time to time and it always catches me off guard. My knee jerk reaction is to want to say, “Well, that’s what I’m trained to do.” followed by an, “and that’s why you hired me!”

I’ve come to realize that this seemingly simple question is not really about me (bad egotistical architect!) but about our fascination with the design process and awe at what it can conjure. I feel exactly the same way! I certainly catch myself thinking “how did he think of that?!” when I look at Terunobu Fujimori’s work. His playful, striking and elegant designs stop me in my tracks... truly inspiring stuff and it makes me wonder what inspires HIM to produce such work.

So, my hope for this blog is to be a sharing of inspirations. I’ll share what inspires me and I hope to hear what inspires you. Because I want to know, “How did YOU think of that?”

Click here to see some of Terunobu Fujimori’s inspiring work.
